Freckleton Half Marathon: The oldest half in the UK
Welcome to The Freckleton Half Marathon in the heart of the beautiful Fylde Coast
As well as being the oldest half marathon in the UK, this race is rated as one of the top races in the country. In 2009 it is rated at number 15 in the UK, above The London Marathon. If we take half marathons alone we are placed at number 8 in the UK. (Runners World, 2009).
I have put this site togeher to give you a flavour of the race, but please also have a look at the links to get a picture of what this beautiful area has to offer. You don't have to be a runner to enjoy the Fylde Coast.
If you have an event or atraction on the Fylde Coast please contact me and I will happily post a link to your web site.
I am committed to building on the success and long traditions of this wonderful race. Our 2-mile family fun run has now become firmly established and takes in part of the Half Marathon course and is open to everyone. It starts at 2.15 so everyone should be back well in time to see the Half Marathon runners return. Who knows, perhaps we will see a future champion in the fun run.
We are fortunate to have the services of Andy O’Sullivan MBE, BEM, to provide us with race commentary. No doubt there will be a good bit of banter from Andy, who seems to know every runner in the country!
I wish to thank to all those who have help in a great many ways, to ensure the success of the race. In one way or another, almost 100 people give up their time to help make sure the race is a success. Too many to list here but you know who you are and what you have done. I am sure you will join me in thanking these people and organisations, without whom we have no race.
I hope this web site will persuade you to join us for what we hope will be a great day out.
Thank you
Brian Porter
