RideSafeBackSafe Event Fairhaven Lake

The RideSafe Rendezvous Attracts Bikers from the North West

RideSafeBackSafe Event FairhavenLakeRideSafeBackSafe returned to Fairhaven Lake this week attracting 3-4,000 visitors to this special event.

This exciting one-day event is a free show, dedicated to all motorcycle and scooter enthusiasts and riders alike.

The one-day biking extravaganza is part of the RideSafe Backsafe Initiative, supported by Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety and Lancashire Police, working in partnership with key motorcycle organisations such as the Institute for Advanced Motorists, BMF and MAG. The RideSafe Rendezvous has important messages to share with all visitors, Sergeant Beresford, from Blackpool Road Policing explains:

‘We fully support the RideSafe BackSafe initiative and the event. Motorcyclists are a high risk and vulnerable group, which we are keen to work with to make them safer on our roads. The majority of bikers want to continually learn and improve their skills, so that they can enjoy riding more and we will continue to work with them to promote safe and defensive riding and highlight the benefits of wearing protective clothing’

The RideSafe Rendezvous featured star attraction, Maria Costello, an Isle of Man TT competitor and also the fastest woman on two wheels, within the Woman in Biking zone. Along with a proverbial jungle of motorcycle dealers and trade stands, exhibiting everything from new bikes, used bikes, accessories, leathers and clothing, plus a classic bike display.

To finish the line up, top stunt rider Dave Coates wowed the crowds with his monster wheelies and stoppies, the Xtreme Trails Display Team demonstrated the art of freestyle trails riding tricks and an unusual motorcycle stunt performance by MPC Ural Motorcycles with their Russian built Ural motorcycles and sidecars.

Entertainment was supplied by The Lancashire Hotpots who are a fabulous folk quartet with an ear for the funny rhyme and who wear the attire of Fred Dibnah’s stoker.  Having never heard of them before, I found myself really starting to enjoy the Lancashire brogue as I sang along to “Chippy Tea” and “Shopmobility Scooter”.  They were brilliant and the family crowd loved them.
