Green Flag for Fairhaven Lake and Lowther Gardens
The Mayor of Fylde, Cllr John Prestwich, will be re-raising green flags in both Fairhaven Lake and Lowther Gardens as both retained their Green Flag status this year.
Green Flag status recognises standards of excellence within parks and green spaces and is operated along similar lines to the Blue Flag award, given to clean beaches. The Civic Trust and the Department of Communities and Local Government give the awards annually and this year the awards celebrate their 10th anniversary.
Fylde has been involved with the Green Flag award for the past five years.
Lowther Gardens was awarded a green flag in 2002 and has retained it ever since. Fairhaven Lake and Gardens was awarded a Green Flag in 2003 and has also retained it since then. The parks must show consistently high standards in order to maintain their awards.
The Mayor of Fylde, Cllr John Prestwich, said, “ Both Fairhaven Lake and Lowther Gardens retaining their Green Flag status highlights the tremendous work that is done by Fylde’s Parks staff to ensure they are kept in pristine condition. We’re delighted as very stringent standards are set in place in order to receive Green Flag Status. Having the accolade means our parks are recognised amongst the best in the country”.
